Karachi: The SHC directed the Karachi Building Control Authority’s chief controller to deal with all violators of laws without any discrimination. Petitioner Sarwat Javed submitted that her plot IV-E/11,10 in Nazimabad, Karachi, was not being declared commercialised by the CDGK, even though it had declared the ‘A’ road between Lasbella Bridge to Nazimabad Bridge as commercial. On Thursday, the CDGK district officer (MPGO) conceded that illegal building activities were continuing in the area in violation of the laws. The SHC division bench comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Tufail H Ebrahim directed the KBCA chief controller to enforce the law and deal with violators without any discrimination.

Nigerian slapped 7-year imprisonment: A judge of the Special CNC Court Imdad Hussain Khoso on Thursday awarded a seven-year imprisonment sentence and Rs 50,000 fine to a Nigerian in a heroin smuggling case. On condition of defaulting on the fine, the accused would suffer an additional three months. The court pronounced the judgement in the presence of the accused Chukwuma Ernest and the Anti-Narcotics Force’s (ANF) counsel. According to the prosecution, Ernest was a Nigerian and arrested from the Jinnah International Airport Karachi on December 15, 2005. The ANF had found 6.20kg of high quality heroin during a body search and taken him into custody. He had admitted during investigation that he had been smuggling illegal drugs for a long time. Therefore the ANF had lodged an FIR against Ernest and a Ugandan Ezefenyi Gerald, who was currently an absconder. staff report
