The Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA) is launching a new housing project at I-16/3 Islamabad for low paid federal government employees (BPS 1 to 16) and general public including Overseas Pakistanis under the Prime Minister Housing Scheme.

An official of the PHA told APP said that federal employees, who would be in service till Aug 31, 2010 are eligible to apply for the apartments.

“The apartments will be D (1095 sqft) and E (869 sqft) type, which will available on easy installments for government, semi- government employees, overseas Pakistanis and general public,” he added.

The employees, who were in service by August 1, 2007, can also apply for the apartments, he said adding that widows of such employees whose husbands died during the same period are also eligible to apply under the scheme.

Last date for submission of applications under the scheme is Sept 5.

He said the apartments would be earthquake proof and would have all facilities like schools, hospitals, shopping plaza, play grounds, and parks.

The brochures are available at all designated branches of Habib Bank Limited, Askari Bank and Samba Bank.

Soon after taking over the charge the PPP government announced to construct one million houses.

Following a short-term strategy, the government has constructed 10,300 houses, which is double of the set target of 5,000 houses.

Construction of houses has started in sectors G-10, G-11 and I-11 in Islamabad. Construction of housing units is underway in Gulshan-e-Memar, Scheme 33 and Mono Got areas in Karachi, Hayatabad in Peshawar, Federal Colony in Lahore and along the Chamn highway in Quetta .

About 3000 kanals of land in Bara Kahu has been purchased, where flats and plots would be built and allotted to the government employees, general public and journalists.

The allotment would be on ‘no profit and no loss basis’. About two percent quota for journalists and non- journalists has been allocated in each of the federal schemes.

Under the Prime Minister’s Housing for All Programme, one million housing units would be constructed throughout the country including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Northern Areas for the needy, poor, government servants and general public on affordable cost.
