PUNJAB Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that the government will establish libraries at union council level for promoting the habit of book reading and it will also ensure the availability of quality books.

Addressing a meeting held to review establishment of libraries here on Wednesday, the chief minister said promotion of reading habit, especially among the students, was the need of the hour. He said that a task force would soon be constituted for this purpose.

Shahbaz said the government was determined to improve education system in the province and collective efforts were required in this regard. He said seminars and conferences would be held after Eidul Fitr at the divisional headquarters to seek proposals from teachers, parents and intellectuals for strengthening education sector. He said provision of quality education, attendance of teachers and other related issues would be discussed in the seminars and the government would take measures for development of the education sector in the light of proposals made at the seminars. “Improvement of the existing education system and institutions is a challenge for the present government but it will take measures to better the situation with the cooperation of the masses,” he maintained. The chief minister said position holders in different examinations had been encouraged with cash awards and certificates while services of the heads of their schools and colleges had also been acknowledged. He said steps would be taken for the betterment of teachers and they should utilise their energies for education and character-building of their students.

“The government will leave no stone unturned for uplifting the living standard of people and progress of the province,” he said, adding that this was his mission and he would strive hard for its achievement.
