Islamabad—The Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2011 was introduced in National Assembly on Tuesday with a view to ensure and maintain the master plan of Islamabad and punish encroachers, land grabbers and unauthorized occupants and possessors of Authority’s properties.

PML-N lawmaker Parveen Masood Bhatti moved the bill to further amend the Capital Development Authority Ordinance, 1960 [The Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2011] in the House.

Statement of objects and reasons says that in recent past there has been a tendency to convert public parks into residential and commercial areas which is grabbing all green areas, necessary to maintain environmental balance in the Capital.

Some officers and officials of the CDA are involved in such activities to extend undue favours to some vested interests which is dangerous to the beauty of the Capital.

Similarly, there are unchecked encroachments or unauthorized occupations and possessions of state lands causing loss of billion of rupees.

Meanwhile, Chairperson NA standing committee on Law, Justices and Parliamentary Affairs presented two reports of the committee regarding the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2009 and the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill 2010 in the House.

The Committee did not approve the said Bills unanimously and recommended that the same may not be processed with by the National Assembly for legislation.
