PESHAWAR - The authorities concerned need to properly keep check on the overall management of the Jinah Park, Peshawar, as some reports says that some of the employees at the park have close links with land mafia and corrupt elements who are trying to purchase the valuable property of Jinnah Park.
Some employees working at Jinnah Park, where digital fountains were installed and the largest national flag was hoisted, were also the members of the land mafia, which was planning to occupy land by gradually flattening its original boundaries besides stealing its valuable property with the help of the corrupt members of the internal staff. They said they also forwarded a written application to Senior Minister Bashir Ahmaad Bilour to inform him of the corruption of the Jinnah Park’s staffers. They said they also mentioned the names of the accused in the application, adding that however so far no action was taken against them. They said the names of garden superintend, head maali and contractor were included in the list of the corrupt staffers of the park. It has been learnt that the mafia rented the iron blockades of the park on huge amount due to which some of the boundary area has been damaged, marring the attractiveness of the venue besides damaging the valuable trees inside the recreational spot.
Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour is keenly interested in the beautification of Peshawar and for the first time digital fountains, of the latest design not only in Pakistan but also in the entire South Asia, have been installed in Jinnah Park with an estimated cost of Rs 18.5 million. This technology has been imported from Spain and Germany. The senior minister has also directed for increase in the number of lights to make the fountains more attractive. Likewise, the largest ever flag of the country - 90-feet long and 60-feet wide - has also been hoisted in Jinnah Park at the cost of Rs 3 million. This biggest flag was prepared by a Karachi-based fabric company. However, it was torn within 18 days of its hoisting, though it was latter repaired and installed again.
It is worth mentioning here that the installation of digital fountains and hoisting the largest flag by Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour was appreciated by the masses. But, now they also demand induction of loyal and fair people to ensure security of the park and its valuable equipments. Moreover, the area residents have also demanded of the government to take serious action against those staffers of the park, who were accused of having close links with corrupt elements and land mafia.
