CDA chief cancels 120 plots illegal allotment

ISLAMABAD - The drama, which began on Wednesday evening where some of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials headed by the deputationists had tried to hold “illegal” balloting of residential plots in posh Sector I-8, ended on Friday after the Chairman CDA cancelled with a single stroke of pen the allotment of 120 plots to officials and officers of the Authority. “The balloting and subsequent allotment of plots done on June 21, 2012 has no legal grounds as it was neither ordered nor approved by the Chairman CDA,” reads a circular issued from the Chairman office.

Earlier, the plots were allotted to officers of grade-17 and above which also included the officers who are working in CDA on deputation and those who have recently been absorbed in the Authority. It was started on Wednesday, when the officials of the Authority were holding the balloting of plots in Jinnah Convention Centre and the ceremony was intervened by the members of CDA Employees Welfare Association on the ground that balloting was against the rules and regulations.

Next day, Thursday, the activists of Employees Welfare Association and CDA Mazdoor Union staged separate protest demonstrations inside the premises of CDA Headquarters building against the balloting and demanded of the Chairman CDA to cancel all such allotments.

The CDA Law Directorate while informing about the legalities involving these allotments informed the Chairman CDA that plots were allotted in a sheer violation of rules as court had already issued stay orders in this case. Upon that the Chairman CDA struck down the allotment of plots.
