BEIJING: With better communication links between Pakistan and China and aggressive marketing the $15 billion trade target set between Pakistan and China for 2015 is achievable, said Ambassador Masood Khalid.
Addressing the visiting National Defense University (NDU) delegation at the Pakistan Embassy, Pakistan envoy said excellent quality Pakistani fruits and other products especially textile products could find a market in China.
He said land trade between the two countries has registered an upward trajectory in recent years and has reached $400 million mark. This will be a win-win situation for both Pakistan and China, he said.
He emphasised there was dire need for the private sector of Pakistan to carry out extensive and aggressive marketing to tap the vast business prospects China offers.
Khalid said developing countries could learn from successful Chinese economic and development model.
In this regard, he mentioned the wise Chinese leadership, which with its concerted effort has brought 500 million Chinese out of poverty and emerged as the second largest economy.
China will continue to march towards progress, because of its policies of peaceful co-existence and harmony, he said while responding to another question.
He said friendship with China has been a corner stone of Pakistan’s Foreign Policy. Pakistan, he said was one of the first countries to sign border agreement with China, while Pakistan International Airlines was the first foreign non-Communist carrier to start its flights to China in 1963.
Pakistan played a key role in bringing US-China closer to each other in 1971, helping China gain UN membership.
There is a consensus among all segments of the Pakistani society to strengthen ties with China and the leadership of both the countries is fully committed to enhance this cooperation
