Work on Railway Bridge Expansion Project at Mareer Chowk, which was halted due to shortage of funds, has been restarted and likely to be completed in May this year.

According to reliable sources, the executing body, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), has finally received funds, enabling it to restart work on the mega project through the NLC, whose manpower and heavy machinery are busy in working round the clock to complete it in the shortest possible time. Interestingly, the traffic flow between Mareer Chowk and Liaquat Bagh is also seen moving smoothly without any suspension on both sides of the road.

Apart from working on the bridge expansion, work on widening of both sides of Benazir Bhutto Road to the Liaquat Bagh has also been expedited.According to former MNA of the PML-N Shakil Awan, in whose tenure the project kicked off, work on it would be completed by the second or third week of May this year. He said that the remaining funds of Rs120 billion have also been released to the executing body for getting the project completed by the second week of May.

RDA Assistant Director Media Mohammad Umar Farooq confirmed that work on the project has been expedited. About 80 to 90% of work would be completed by the time of elections. No hurdles stand in the way of the project and the process of work is being done smoothly. However, to a question whether total funds of the project were released or not, the spokesman expressed his unawareness over it.
