Islamabad

As the Metro Bus Project is near completion, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is preparing to repair and rehabilitate the affected roads.

The road users have been going through great hardship and facing tough time for the last over one year since start of the Metro Bus Service Project for twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The ongoing work on the project of luxury bus service, had played havoc with road network of the twin cities. The condition of roads in adjoining sectors of the metro bus project is more miserable making it difficult to have smooth drive.

The CDA on Friday decided to initiate a comprehensive programme to rehabilitate up-grade and beautify roads, markets and green belts across the federal capital. This was decided in a meeting held at CDA Headquarters here on Friday.

The meeting was chaired by CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal while Member Administration and Estate Amer Ali Ahmed, Member Engineering Shahid Sohail and other senior officers of the authority were also present in the meeting. The rehabilitation work would start from repair of Margalla Avenue from Saturday, which was mostly used as major alternative artery during work on Islamabad section of Metro Bus Project. All affected roads would also be rehabilitated simultaneously and CDA would utilise its own resources to complete repair and maintenance work of the affected roads. During the meeting it was decided that rehabilitation work on all major roads and streets of Islamabad would beging without delay.

CDA also decided to upgrade the different ‘marakiz’ and class three shopping centres of Islamabad and for this purpose amenities including streetlights, repair and maintenance and up-gradation of footpaths, roads and other facilities and infrastructure in the markets would be ensured. On this occasion CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal was apprised that in order to complete the repair and maintenance of affected roads, work on the roads of Sector G-9 is in progress while repair and maintenance work on the 9th Avenue, Nazim-ud-Din Road, Luqman Hakim Road and other major roads of Islamabad affected by Metro bus Project has also been started.
