Knowledge Park to bring about revolution: CM - Salman - 05-07-2015 05:54 PM

CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that a Knowledge Park of international standards is being set up in the provincial metropolis and it will be the first educational centre of international standard in South Asia.

Students from Pakistan and other countries will be able to get admission in the educational institutes to be established in the Knowledge Park.

Presiding over a meeting here Monday, the chief minister said Knowledge Park would bring about a revolution in the education sector in South Asia. He said that residential facilities for teachers and students, shopping mall, recreation centre and other facilities would be available in the Knowledge Park. He said the dream of progress could not be realised without education and it was necessary for overcoming terrorism, extremism, poverty, unemployment and other issues. He said that in view of the importance of education, the Punjab government had taken revolutionary measures for the development of education sector and setting up of the Knowledge Park was also a step in this direction.

Chinese envoy: Chinese Consul General Yu Boren called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, here, Monday. Matters of mutual interest, Pak-China relations and historic Chinese economic package of $46 billion were discussed in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that Pak-China economic corridor would accelerate economic and trade activities. Shahbaz Sharif said that historic agreements of $46 billion were signed during the visit of Chinese President to Pakistan and China had proved to be a true friend of Pakistan.

councillors: Successful candidates in the local government elections of Cantonment Board Lahore called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, here, Monday. The chief minister congratulated the newly-elected councillors on their victory in the elections.

Talking to the newly-elected councillors, the chief minister said their glorious victory was the result of public service of PML-N. He said PML-N had won LG elections in cantonment boards. Kh Saad Rafique said the victory in LG polls of cantonment boards was the result of tireless efforts of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Chinese team: Chairman of a renowned Chinese company in energy sector Zhang Xin, called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, here on Monday. Energy projects especially solar power projects were discussed in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said the Punjab government had completed the first and the biggest solar power station of the country and it was a unique project of power generation through solar energy. He said a project to generate 900 megawatt electricity had been planned in Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park Bahawalpur with the cooperation of China.

expatriates: Shahbaz Sharif has said that setting up of Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab is a commendable step of the government and it is playing an important role in the solution of the problems of Pakistanis living abroad. He directed that road shows be arranged in foreign countries for promoting awareness, so that overseas Pakistanis could fully benefit from this institution. He said modern technology should be used for redressing the grievances of overseas Pakistanis. He was presiding a meeting to review performance of Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab, here, Monday. Various proposals for improving efficiency of the commission were also considered in the meeting. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab was an effective institution which had been set up for the service and solution of problems of Pakistanis living abroad. He said he was personally monitoring the performance of the commission. He said that committees had also been set up under the Overseas Pakistanis Commission in all districts of the province. He said that complainants living in any part of the country could contact the commission if they had any problem relating to Punjab and immediate measures would be taken for redressing their grievances.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab should also take benefit from a video link technology for performance of its responsibilities. Commissioner Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab Afzaal Bhatti in his briefing informed that the commission had provided relief to a number of Overseas Pakistanis through resolving their problems. He said arrangements had also been made for the conduct of road shows in foreign countries.

RAMAZAN BAZAARS: Shahbaz Sharif has said that like previous years, Ramazan bazaars will be set up for providing quality essential items to the people at cheaper rates during Ramazan this year. Fair price shops and green channels will be opened for providing quality fruits and vegetables in Ramazan bazaars. He said that flour, sugar and other edibles would be available in Ramazan bazaars at less than market rate. He said no one would be allowed to exploit the people through hoarding. He said cabinet committee and departments concerned with mutual consultation should submit final recommendations within next five days. He was addressing a meeting at Civil Secretariat through a video link, here, Monday. The meeting discussed various proposals regarding Ramazan package. He said the arrangements Ramazan bazaars should be made better than earlier.

He said number of Madni dastarkhawans should be increased considerably in Punjab. He said no compromise would be made on provision of quality items to the people at cheaper rates and foolproof security and effective monitoring system of Ramazan bazaars should be evolved.
