ISLAMABAD:
The signal-free Islamabad Expressway will have a segregated lane for motorcyclists to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and increase road safety.

“The expressway will become the first major avenue in the country to have such facility,” said Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal while inspecting the ongoing work on the project on Monday.

During the inspection, he was informed that segregated lanes for motorcycle and bicycle riders has been tested and scrutinised in many countries and has proved a successful experience for maintaining road safety and smooth traffic flow.

The CDA chairman was told that the labour force and machinery has been doubled to meet the November 30 deadline to complete the first phase of the project from Zero Point to Faizabad.

The chairman was informed that pillars of I-8 sectors had been erected and slabs on the bridge would be placed in next a few days, while development work on remaining two loops was in full swing.

The CDA chairman said that the Islamabad Expressway was one of the major arteries for access to the capital city and its expansion was much needed for easing traffic flow.

He said the signal free expressway corridor would be provided with all modern road facilities. He said that the expansion project would be completed in stipulated time.
