Islamabad: IHC vacates stay on F-8 park construction work - Naveed Yaseen - 07-03-2008 09:08 AM

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday vacated a stay granted earlier on construction work initiated by Capital Development Authority (CDA) in a park in Sector F-8.

A single bench comprising Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam was hearing a writ petition filed by the residents of the sector accusing the CDA of using public park for commercial purposes.

The counsel for the CDA, Masroor Shah and Musarrat Abbasi, informed the court that construction activity was not carried out for any commercial purpose, instead the authority was developing a cricket ground in the park.

They said during construction of the 7th and 9th avenues, two cricket grounds were consumed, so the CDA wanted to develop a cricket ground with all facilities in the park. They said the ground would not lead to any public nuisance.

Summons CDA Chairman: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) Chairman Kamran Lashari on a writ petition against favouritism in awarding contracts of over Rs 1 billion project of Zero Point Interchange, Online reported.

Justice Syed Qalab Hussain of IHC has issued the notice asking the CDA chairman to appear before the court on July 9 with all the related records.

Exide Private Limited Chief Executive Sardar Hayat Khan had filed a petition with the IHC alleging that the CDA chairman was trying to award the contract of the project to his favourite company Maqbool Associate Private Limited and ignored their offer.
