LAHORE: Lahoris are no longer concerned about organising outdoor events in the city’s hot and humid weather as a new trend of renting chillers and air-conditioning cabinets (run by generators) has been introduced this summer.

People said they were happy with the new development because it had finally made it possible for them to conduct celebratory functions that were not restricted by the heat.

Shahid Zia, a Defence Housing Authority (DHA) resident, said, “After failing to rent a hall in a five-star hotel, I arranged my wedding function at my farmhouse. To make the event comfortable for the guests, I hired the services of a cooling company that provided chillers and air-conditioning cabinets.”

He said people should avail the facility to ensure that their outdoor functions were a success. “Everyone enjoyed the outdoor function because it was a comfortable event,” he added.

A cooling company owner said that the facility had been available in Karachi a couple of years ago. He said that it had also been available in Lahore for over a year but had only recently gained popularity because the rental cost had been reduced. “The people are happy with the new facility. A 40-tonne chiller is enough for a function of 100 to 150 guests. We charge Rs 900 per tonne for the service,” he added.

He said his company had also introduced a canopy that remained safe and secure in windstorms of upto 120 kilometres per hour.
