Multan CD traders receive threatening letters from Taliban

MULTAN: The CD traders of Firdous Market in Dera Adda on Saturday received threatening letters, purportedly from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Multan, warning them of dire consequences if they did not quit their "un-Islamic" business.

Cantt Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Muhammad Ashfaq said the letters were stamped at GPO Multan, which indicated that they had been written and posted locally.

He said that the police will provide two gunmen to the Firdous Market traders and plainclothes police personnel will also be deputed to keep a vigil on suspects from tomorrow. He said the businessmen have also been asked to arrange private guards for security. Ashfaq said that the Taliban, through their letters written to several shopkeepers of the market, have asked the traders to give up the business, "otherwise they would be dealt with accordingly". Firdous Market Traders’ Association General Secretary Abdul Hakim said traders were frightened after receiving the threatening letters from the Taliban. app
