CM lays foundation of Rs1.4 billion flyover,underpass at Peshawar Road
Rawalpindi : Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif Friday performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the flyover and underpass to be constructed at Pirwadhai Morr, Peshawar Road.
Commissioner Imdadullah Bosal, DCO Saqib Zafar, MNA Malik Ibrar, MPA Chaudhry Ayaz and high officials of the National Logistic Cell (NLC) were present on the occasion. The Punjab chief minister also inaugurated the project for widening of Chur Chowk. The NLC officials told the chief minister that work on three components, including three lanes from Saddar to Peshawar Road side and equal number of lanes from Peshawar Road to Saddar side, turning to Misrial Road from Peshawar side and Westridge through a U-turn and turning from Misrial Road has been completed. The work on this project, costing Rs431 million, was inaugurated by the chief minister on March 27 and completed on November 15. Giving briefing on the new flyover and underpass project at Pirwadhai Morr, the officials stated that the total cost of the scheme is Rs1.447 billion. However, out of the total cost, the Government of Punjab has released Rs380 million. The flyover would be built from Peshawar Road to Saddar and the underpass from Saddar to IJ Principal Road. The total length of the flyover would be 380 metres, while of underpass would be 438 metres. On the occasion, the chief minister issued necessary directions to the contractor for using standard material while constructing the flyover and underpass. After performing the inauguration of widening of Chur Chowk and performing the groundbreaking ceremony, the chief minister addressed a public rally at the Government Degree Girls College near Kohinoor Mills, which was attended by hundreds of party workers and activists who had come from different parts of Rawalpindi division. Mian Shahbaz Sharif referred to the development work carried out in Rawalpindi over last four years on which billions of rupees were spent. “The federal government in order to fail the PML-N government in Punjab did not allocate development funds to the provincial government. However, the Punjab government allocated huge funds for mega uplift schemes, which were completed on time. Besides initiating development schemes, the Punjab government laid emphasis on improvement of health and education sectors. For encouraging students, laptops were distributed among them in every part of Punjab. Students were sent abroad on scholarships for higher studies. Health programmes, including eradication of polio and dengue fever, proved effective as practical measures were taken with positive results. Similarly, mega health schemes like cardiac centre and urology centre were completed,” he added. Besides encouraging students, the Punjab government regularised services of hundreds of employees working in provincial government departments. Job opportunities were created in education sector like recruitment of teachers, both male and female, in academic institutions of Punjab, the chief minister said. |
