CDA puts katchi abadi operations on hold
ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior has directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) not to launch any operation against katchi abadis in Ramazan in the wake of prevailing security threats in the country. “The threats are related to the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) and the government does not want any criminals taking advantage of the situation,” said a senior CDA official. Sources in the civic body said during a meeting held at the ministry last week it was decided to discourage public gatherings as much as possible. The current security situation has forced the CDA to cut short the drive against katchi abadis. “There hasn’t been any activity in the last two weeks due to the military operation in NWA and the clashes between Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers and police in the twin cities,” said Mohammad Iqbal, the director enforcement of the CDA. |
