Agri credit disbursement rises by 11.48%
KARACHI: Disbursement of credit to the agriculture sector by commercial and specialised banks increased by Rs 12 billion or 11.48 percent year-on-year to Rs 116.77 billion during the first seven months (July-January) of 2008-09.
These banks had disbursed Rs 104.755 billion during the same period of last fiscal year. Credit disbursement by Allied Bank, Habib Bank, MCB Bank, National Bank of Pakistan and United Bank—the five major commercial banks—stood at Rs 56.862 billion during first seven months of this fiscal year, compared with Rs 50.520 billion during the same period of last fiscal year, showing an increase of Rs 6.34 billion or 12.55 percent. Zarai Taraqiati Bank, the largest specialised bank, disbursed Rs 32.928 billion compared with Rs 28.125 billion last year. Disbursement by Punjab Provincial Co-operative Bank stood at Rs 3.283 billion compared with Rs 3.666 billion last year.
