SC orders removal of encroachments on archaeological sites
ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered all provincial chief secretaries to remove encroachments on archaeological sites within six weeks.
The bench, consisting of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Jawwad Khawaja, was hearing a suo motu notice against encroachments on various archaeological sites across the country. Meanwhile, the bench also ordered the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) chairman and the Lahore DCO to submit a detailed report within two weeks on the illegal lease of a piece of land adjacent to a Hindu temple in Lahore. Earlier, Lahore Ravi Town TMO Ahmad Kamal had informed the court that the ETPB chairman had leased the land on the condition that the lessee would renovate the temple. staff report http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg7_14 |
