Girls do it again in matric exam
Govt schools performance poor

LAHORE

THE Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Lahore, on Wednesday declared the result of Secondary School Certificate (matriculation) annual examination 2010, according to which overall pass percentage remained 60.79, slightly lower than that of 2009.

Girls outshined boys as overall top two positions have been secured by female candidates. The result also exposed performance of government sector schools as almost all the positions were grabbed by students of private educational institutions.

As many as 126,753 students out of total 211,661 passed the exam this year while last year the overall pass percentage was 61.99.

This year a total of 91,889 candidates had appeared in Science Group out of which 71501 passed the exam with 77.81 pass percentage. In Humanities Group a total of 116,631 students had appeared out of which 55,252 passed while the pass percentage remained 47.37.

According to the result, overall first position was clinched by Ramla Ijaz of the Divisional Public Higher Secondary School, Model Town, by securing 1,019 marks. Zabreen Tahir of the Punjab School for Girls, Block-2 C-I, Township, bagged the second position by securing 1,018 marks while Muhammad Attique ur Rehman of Sadiq Memorial High School for Boys, Amin Town, Kasur, stood third with 1,014 marks.

In Science Group (Boys), first position was bagged by Muhammad Attique ur Rehman of Sadiq Memorial High School for Boys, Amin Town, Kasur. The second position was shared by Muhammad Salman Aslam of the District Public School for Boys, Okara and Awais Raza of the Crescent Model Higher Secondary School for Boys, Shadman, with 1,013 marks each. Similarly the third position was also shared by Muhammad Arslan Ali of Hera Public High School for Boys, Nankana Sahib and Moaaz Ahmad of the same school as they secured 1012 marks each. In Science Group (Girls), Ramla Ijaz stood first, Zabreen Tahir second while Momina Rauf of the Capital Girls High School, Shalimar

Link Road, third with 1,012 marks.

In Humanities Group (Boys), first position was clinched by Muhammad Bilal Zaib, a private candidate from Lahore, with 971 marks, second by Muhammad Usman, also a private candidate from Kasur, with 926 marks and Hafiz Muhammad Kashif of Khudian Public Boys School, Khudian Khas, Kasur, bagged third position with 916 marks.In Humanities Group (Girls), Rabia Zahid of the Punjab School for Girls, Township, secured first position with 978 marks while the second position was shared by two candidates Sania Riaz of Farooqi Girls High School, Ravi Road and Anam Yaseen of Pakistan Model High School, Kasur, with 975 marks each. Similarly third position was also shared by two students Khalida Muzaffar and Aqsa Rafaqat both from the Farooqi Girls High School, Ravi Road, with 964 marks each.

The overall topper was awarded Pentium-IV computer while position holders of each group were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals for first, second and third positions respectively besides cash awards of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
