Three bus terminals to be set up in Lahore: Shahbaz
Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that high quality bus terminals will be constructed at three places in Lahore namely Shahdarah, Ferozpur Road and Thokar Niaz Beg for providing better facilities to the commuters. He was presiding over a high level meeting with regard to construction of bus terminals in Lahore, here Sunday.

The chief minister directed Chairman Planning and Development (P&D), Javed Aslam to visit Shahdarh along-with MNA Malik Riaz by Monday and identify the land for the proposed bus terminal. He said that after completing the process of identification of land for the terminals, work on their designs should be started. He added that no shortage will be allowed in provision of funds for the projects.

Shahbaz directed that the proposed bus terminals should be constructed with modern facilities, keeping in view the future demands of the passengers. He further said the terminals should be constructed under public-private partnership, having facilities like waiting rooms, hotels, markets and indoor games.

He observed that the construction of Ring Road has provided ease to the commuters arriving in Lahore by their personal vehicles, as well as people travelling inside the city from one corner to other. However, problems in inter-city transport still exist.

He recalled that on assuming the office of chief minister, he directed shifting of Badami Bagh bus-stand, which is underway. He directed that facilities and cleanliness should be provided to the passengers on priority basis till shifting of the bus-stand.

Earlier, Javed Aslam informed the meeting that 242-kanal land at Thokar Niaz Beg and 462-kanal land at Ferozepur Road have been identified for construction of the bus terminals.

Members National and Provincial Assemblies Malik Riaz, Afzal Khokhar, Mian Mohsin Latif, Mian Marghoob Ahmed, Secretary Transport, Commissioner & District Co-ordination Officer Lahore and other officers attended the meeting.
