Projects of Rs 400m in D12 approved

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved development projects of Rs 400 million in Sector D12.

According to the civic authority sources, the CDA chairman approved the uplift projects, including construction of main and service roads in the sector.

It must be noted that the sector was launched in 1989 and the allottees have been waiting for the completion of the uplift work for last 24 years. The contract of the development work in the sector was awarded in 2005 for two years but it could not be finished even after the passage of eight years.

Policemen wounded: Two policemen sustained bullet injuries in firing by some unidentified miscreants in the limits of Sabzi Mandi Police Station on Thursday night.

The police team was attacked when they were patrolling in the area of Social Security Colony.

The wounded police personnel were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) Hospital.

Delay in highway
construction: Inordinate delay in completion of construction work on Kashmir Highway project from Golra Morr to Peshawar Morr has caused traffic mess.

The project was initiated on February 28, 2011 and it was required to be completed within two years but only 20 percent progress has been achieved on section one and 40 percent on section 2, which is extended from Golra Morr to Peshawar Morr.

The railway has demanded Rs 50 million from the CDA which have not been paid yet. The payment of bills amounting to Rs 250 million in respect of Joint Venture Firm is pending.

The delay has been caused due to failure of the CDA to clear the dues of contractors.

The citizens have demanded early completion of the project.

Private schools without playgrounds: Despite charging heavy tuition fee and other charges from students’ parents, several small and large private schools in the twin cities lack playgrounds.

The private school industry has grown and flourished extensively in almost every city, district and even small towns. It is also noted that sports play an important role in students’ lives by teaching them sportsmanship, physical fitness, team spirit, mental strength, constructive use of time, maintaining health, confidence and decision-making.

The students can also play games as a recreational activity to get away from their hectic academic schedules.

Due to a low standard of education in state-run schools, people prefer sending their children to private ones. A lot of these private schools have been unable to fulfil the expectations of parents. Parents say that the condition of public schools is somewhat better than private schools as their campuses are built on vast pieces of land unlike private schools operating in small buildings or even houses.

A lot of parents have expressed concern over the shortage of playgrounds and have urged the officials concerned to construct playgrounds in their respective schools. Sadia, a mother of a student, said that schools without playgrounds should not be allowed to function. She added the private schools, despite charging heavy fee from parents, have failed to provide quality sports and extra-curricular activities to their students.

Sanitation problems: The fruit and vegetable market in the federal capital is facing sanitation problems owing to negligence of authorities concerned.

The merchants claimed that more than 100 sanitary workers of the civic body had been assigned to keep the market clean but they did not visit the market.

The merchants spoke about the poor management of the authorities concerned despite registration of several complaints.

Rehmat Khan, a merchant, said, “The sanitation staff does not come regularly.” He added the authorities concerned should take proper steps for cleaning the market. The people are facing sanitation problems in Aabpara Market, Melody Market, Sitara Market, Super Market, Jinnah Super Market, F8 Markaz and Peshawar Morr. The citizens complained that the CDA staff was not performing its duties in a befitting manner. They urged the higher authorities concerned to solve the sanitation problem.

7 outlaws arrested: The Islamabad police have arrested seven persons and recovered weapons and seven wine bottles from their possession, a police spokesman said on Friday.

According to details, Aabpara Police Station team arrested two bootleggers and recovered seven wine bottles from their possession.

Similarly, Kohsar Police Station team nabbed an accused and recovered 30-bore pistol. The same police station arrested three accused for their involvement in one-wheeling. Sahala Police Station arrested an accused and recovered 30-bore pistol from his possession. The police registered cases against these nabbed persons and started the investigation. agencies
