NA body recommends ban on housing schemes in catchment areas of Rawal, Simly dams

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Environment has recommended a ban on all the housing schemes in the catchment areas of Rawal and Simly dams. The committee, which met with Raja Muhammad Asad Khan in the chair, also recommended that no objection certificate (NOC) be issued to the housing societies before starting the project. It recommended strict action by the federal and provincial environmental protection agencies to implement the environmental laws. The committee also expressed concern over encroachments and housing projects in Murree and along the Murree Expressway resulting in deforestation and environmental damage to the area. A sub-committee was constituted under the head of MNA Nosheen Saeed to suggest the measures for control of deforestation and environmental damages in Murree. staff report
