KARACHI: A large number of residents of Haji Ibrahim Goth in Scheme-42 near Hawkesbay staged a protest demonstration outside the press club on Thursday after the Lyari Development Authority (LDA) demolished their houses as part of its operation against illegal constructions.
The affected residents chanted slogans against Sindh Local Bodies Minister Agha Siraj Durrani and the LDA.
The residents claimed they had purchased the land from an estate agent and police officials also collected money from them during the construction of their houses. LDA officials said that the 75-acre land on which the houses were built was illegally occupied during the last three months.
LDA DG Agha Maqsood Abbas said, “We have been investigating to find out who took money from the affected residents for this land and the LDA will take steps to ensure that such occupation does not happen again. online
