ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Housing and Works Rahmatullah Kakar said on Tuesday that over 2,000 flats would be constructed for the shelter less people of federal capital. This is the second mega project after I-16 Sector for which the Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA) has acquired 15 acres of land from the Capital Development Authority (CDA), he said while presiding over a meeting to review the progress on Prime Minister’s Housing Project. The minister said it was national obligation of the construction engineers and experts to acquaint themselves with the emerging cost effective technologies to be utilised in the Prime Minister’s Housing Projects in the country. Kakar said that the Balochistan government was issuing an NOC in next few days for the land acquired by the PHA and it would provide housing facilities to the needy and the government employees. The minister said 2,000 flats were being constructed in I-16 Sector Islamabad on 16 acres of land acquired from the CDA which would double the government’s efforts in achieving the goal for shelter to all. The minister urged the PHA and Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) to intensify their efforts for launching more housing projects to speedily accomplish the housing for all programme. He said the construction of one million housing units would not only provide housing facility to the shelter less, needy, government employees and the general public but also generate socio-economic activities in the country. The meeting expressed satisfaction over the progress on construction of housing units at various places by PHA and FGEHF and asked them to gear up their efforts in order to provide relief to the shelterless people as quickly as possible. Secretary Housing and Works Raja Mohammad Abbas and heads of PHA and FGEHF attended the meeting.
