Sharif brothers have 20 cases pending in NAB - Lahore_Real_Estate - 10-13-2010 01:17 PM * PPP information secretary says party has boycotted a private channel, Urdu daily Staff Report KARACHI: Twenty cases against the Sharif brothers are pending with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Central Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab said on Tuesday. She said that the bureau was duty-bound to pursue all pending cases. While addressing a press conference at the PPP Sindh media cell, Fauzia revealed that cases pertaining to tax evasion were also pending against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders. Observing that there were no political prisoners in the country, she said that the PPP believed in strengthening democratic values. She said that it was for the first time in the country’s history that members of the ruling party had appeared in courts and pleaded for bail. Fauzia said the opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was criticising the appointment of NAB chairman without any reason. She criticised him for boycotting the proceedings of the House over the approval of a bill for restoration of sacked employees. She recalled that following October 12, 1999 military coup, all PML-N leaders were detained in the Attock Jail, however, Khan had been put under house arrest, where he enjoyed various facilities. Fauzia said her party had decided to boycott one private satellite channel and an Urdu newspaper, and no PPP parliamentarian, office-bearer or activist would participate in any programme of that channel. Replying to a query, she said that we do not open cases but this was done at the request of the NAB chairman. She said there were about 8,225 beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance but action was taken against a few people only. She said that Interior Minister Rehman Malik had worked very hard in the war against terrorism. Sindh Assembly members Sharjeel Inam Memon, PPP Karachi President Najmi Alam and General Secretary Karachi Saeed Ghani were also present on the occasion. |
