ISLAMABAD: Taking suo moto notice on the illegal allotment of 26.5 kanals of land to Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority Chairman Hamid Yar Harraj at the Diplomatic Enclave, the Supreme Court on Friday summoned the CDA chairman along with the complete record on Monday.
Notice has also been issued to Harraj regarding the allotment of 26.5 kanals of land to him at the enclave.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken suo moto notice into the matter on a news item aired by a private TV channel stating that the CDA had allotted a plot measuring 26.5 kanals to Harraj for a school in the Diplomatic Enclave, Islamabad December 2007 when he was working as a state minister, in violation of the rules and policy.
According to the telecast, the master plan of Islamabad had been altered without approval of the cabinet and 37 kanals had been changed into 19 kanals. Thereafter, the 19 kanals worth billions of rupees had been allotted to Harraj at Rs 71.632 million, whereas 18 kanals has been given for a school in the name of a green belt.
The report also alleged that Harraj obtained the plot in the name of his relative who was running a private school in Multan. It was also claimed in the TV report that initially a list of allotment was completed, but Harraj using his influence to get the said plot allotted in the name of his relative in violation of the rules.
