NAB files reference against PPOECSL chairman, others

KARACHI: An accountability reference has been filed against Pakistan Post Office Employees Cooperative Societies Limited (PPOECSL) Chairman Kamran Nabi Ahmed and others after approval from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman on Friday.

The reference was filed on the allegations of misappropriation of 18-38 acres society’s land in Sector 25-A/26-A Scheme 33, Karachi, which was later illegally transferred to the partners of Innara Enterprises namely Wali Bhai Momin, Mubarak Ali Raheem, Mubarak Ali Rajab and Barkat Ali, who are also accused in the reference.

According to a NAB release, the complaint of illegal sale of society land to Innara Enterprises was inquired and it revealed that YS Hashmi Management Committee purchased land measuring 64-27 acres during 1982 from Zehri Khan Gabol through his attorney Syed Hayat Shah Kazmi. The accused Kamran Nabi Ahmed, Jafar Khan and others took charge of the Management of Society on January 6, 2004. On March 29, 2004 an area of 18-38 acres was transferred by Kamran Nabi Ahmed and Jafar Khan in favour of Aun Saeed Hashmi who subsequently transferred the land in favour of Momin, Rajab, Raheem and Ali for a consideration of Rs 34.05 million.

The revenue authorities assessed the land valuing Rs 132.65 million during 2004 and the present market value is more than Rs 284.25 million. The accused Kamran Nabi Ahmed, Jafar Khan and eight others in active connivance of each other and officers of cooperative department fraudulently, dishonestly and by concealment of fact misappropriated society land of 18-38 acres, NAB release said.
