FIA summons Moonis Elahi - Lahore_Real_Estate - 01-27-2011 02:49 PM ISLAMABAD/LAHORE - The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday issued summons for Moonis Elahi, son of former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi, in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam case. FIA Additional Director General (ADG) Zafar Qureshi said the FIA had issued summons to Moonis to appear before the FIA investigation team to explain his involvement in the NICL scam. “The FIA team has called him for investigation but if he does not appear before the investigation team, action will be taken against him,” Qureshi told Pakistan Today. Sources in the FIA told Pakistan Today that an arrest warrant would be issued for Moonis if he failed to appear today (Thursday). They said Qureshi had directed FIA Karachi to arrest another main NICL accused, Qasim Ameen Dada, adding that the FIA Karachi was avoiding arresting him because Dada was being protected by FIA DG Waseem Ahmed. Another source said Moonis had left the country for Dubai on January 20 allegedly to avoid arrest in the three million rupees scam. Qureshi said the FIA team was checking all travel records to see whether he was abroad or present in the country. He said the team had sent a request to the Interior Ministry to put the names of Moonis and FIA DG Waseem Ahmad on the exit control list (ECL), adding that they were waiting for further orders. The source said the FIA had arrested Abdul Malik, Moonis’ manager on December 27. During interrogation, Malik revealed that he had facilitated Mohsin Warriach, the main accused in the scam. “The FIA has also sent a questionnaire to Moonis Elahi in this regard but he has not responded,” he said. He said the FIA Lahore had registered two cases in connection with the scam, so far arresting 12 people, including former NICL chairman Ayaz Khan Niazi. |
