CDA chairman calls for early completion of ZPI - Salman - 01-13-2012 12:50 PM CDA chairman calls for early completion of ZPI ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Engineer Farkhand Iqbal has directed the concerned formations of CDA for early execution of the quality landscaping for the beautification of the multipurpose Zero Point Interchange (ZPI) project and construction of the pedestrian bridges to facilitate the general public. He gave these directions during his visit to the ZPI project on Thursday. He was told that CDA is adding special features in the project by developing the isolated areas into beautiful and environmental friendly landscape and public areas. The detail design of the landscaping plan has been finalised. The project is also being incorporated with the latest technique of rainwater harvesting to benefit from the natural source of water flowing through the project area. CDA chairman said that the heaps of the dumped among the loops of the ZPI be removed in a proper manner to facilitate the process of soft landscaping and beautification. He said that the remaining work on the loops adjacent Pakistan Monument will be completed at its earliest. He was apprised that the construction of grade separation facility at ZPI consists of total nineteen major structures comprising of bridges, overhead structures and underpasses with road widening on three major highways, namely Islamabad Highway, Kashmir Highway and on Shahrah-e-Suharwardy with loops and slip roads in clover leaf configuration. The project had six lanes in each direction on Faisal Avenue and five lanes in each direction on Kashmir Highway. ZPI has been constructed under a comprehensive traffic management scheme to cause least disturbance to the traffic plying through the construction areas without affecting the construction activities and progress. This has been a nightmarish exercise in view of enormous quantum of traffic (130,000 vehicles per day) crossing Zero Point Interchange. staff report |
