Rs 15m approved for uplift of public parks in capital - Salman - 01-16-2014 01:52 PM ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal has approved an amount of Rs 15 million for the repair, maintenance and uplift of 46 parks and children’s areas in five sectors of series I and G. These parks and play areas are located in Sectors G6, G7, I9, I10 and G10. Following the directives of the CDA chairman, uplift work had been started from Wednesday at parks and play areas in sectors of series G and I in the capital city. CDA Engineering and Environment Member Sanaullah Aman will oversee the development work. The CDA chairman said that the civic body was committed to providing healthy and recreational facilities to the citizens. He further said that parks and play areas not only provide facilities of physical and mental health for the citizens, including children, but also help in the mental grooming of children. “The development work at parks and play areas should therefore be completed at the earliest so that citizens, particularly children, may benefit from it,” he added. According to a CDA spokesman, development work at all parks and play areas would be completed in phases, which included repair of all facilities like public toilets. The first phase of the development work had started and the project would be completed in 70 days, he said. Meanwhile, CDA chief Maroof Afzal paid a surprise visit to the under-construction Kashmir Highway on Wednesday evening. He reviewed the progress and pace of work being carried out at the important highway. The engineering member briefed the chairman on the progress work. The chairman said that the pace of work at the important and vital inter-provincial road should be expedited so that it was completed soon as possible for the convenience of the motorists. He directed the authorities concerned to expedite the work on bridges to be built on the Kashmir Highway. He also directed them to provide alternative routes/diversions for smooth flow of traffic in the under-construction areas. He told the engineers working on the site that the CDA would not compromise on quality of work and material, so they should increase the pace of work without compromising quality. Separately, the CDA announced to establish a slaughterhouse in Sector H9 with a cost of Rs 50 million. Talking to APP, an official of the CDA said that the proposed slaughterhouse would be established on an area of 20 acres in Sector H9. He said that the CDA was taking all possible measures to ensure healthy conditions for the residents of Islamabad. He said that the slaughterhouse would be established at the earliest and the PC-1 for the project would be approved this month without further delay. Immediately after the approval of the PC-1, work on the project would kick off, since the CDA had allocated Rs 50 million for this initiative, he added. The official said that the new slaughterhouse would be a source of supply of healthy and hygienic meet to the residents of Islamabad.
