ICCI criticises CDA for not doing uplift work in markets - Salman - 02-17-2014 01:18 PM

Islamabad: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) criticised CDA for its alleged negligence and indifference towards developmental works in markets of the federal capital for over the last eight years.

While levelling allegations ICCI President Khalid Chaudhry stated that CDA has been ignoring developmental works in markets for last eight years due to which people are deprived of even basic facilities and present the localities show dilapidated look.

This non-development of works is badly affecting the growth of business activities and CDA should urgently start developmental works in commercial centres to facilitate the growth of trade activities.

He was exchanging these views with the representatives of Traders Action Committee of various markets of the federal capital. He said CDA has a full-fledged Directorate Maintenance, but it seems that it has become dormant as no developmental works are being undertaken in markets.

He called upon the CDA chairman to release necessary funds for upgradation of markets to save them from further destruction. He said the condition of markets in Sectors G-9, G-10, G-13, I-9 and I-10 have badly deteriorated as these are without basic facilities like streetlights, pure drinking water, toilets, footpaths etc.

Khalid Chaudhry said there is no doubt that CDA is facing financial constraints and assured that business community is ready to cooperate with it for overcoming its financial problems.

However, the civic body should provide at least basic facilities in markets, which are necessary to improve basic infrastructure. The absence of streetlights is giving rise to crimes due to which traders are very much concerned.
