Initiatives taken to attract foreign investment: PM - Salman - 02-27-2014 06:47 PM Initiatives taken to attract foreign investment: PM ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Wednesday said that the hallmark of the new energy policy of Pakistan is efficiency, transparency and provision of relief to the common man. Talking to a delegation of Pakistan International Business and Investment Council (PIBIC) led by Special Envoy to PM for Overseas Trade and Investment Javed Malik, the prime minister said that the present government had identified the energy sector as an engine for growth and had taken a number of initiatives to attract foreign investment for exploration of new energy resources and to make the existing power system efficient. Nawaz further said that he looked forward to foreign investors and private entrepreneurs to support Pakistan in its multi-pronged efforts to address this huge energy shortfall through enhanced exploration and production of indigenous resources. The meeting was also attended by Dr Musadiq Malik, Special Assistant to PM, and Miftah Aslam, Chairman BOI. Meanwhile, Javed Malik called on Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in his office in Lahore along with a 10-member business delegation, says a press release. The delegation comprising of multinational businessmen from six countries including United Arab Emirates, Canada, United Kingdom, Malaysia, and United States. Javed Malik briefed the chief minister on his initiatives and discussed with him the various efforts being undertaken by him in order to promote investment and highlight the trade opportunities in Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minter welcomed the visiting delegates and appreciated the efforts being undertaken by the Ambassador Javed Malik to bring businessmen from various countries to Pakistan and assured that his government and relevant departments would fully welcome foreign investors and facilitate them in every possible way. The companies accompanying Ambassador Javed Malik on this visit include, Colt Resources Minerals, Royal Partners Energy, Cal-Valley Petroleum, RHB Capital and BES Portugal, which are represented by chairmen, and CEOs respectively including Richard Quesnal, Nicolas Perault, Saad Al Dhaheri, Pedro Santos, Alun Richards, Shahel Khan, Yousaf Yassit.The delegates will also be meeting federal ministers and business community in Pakistan. |
