KCCI welcomes development projects - Salman - 07-12-2014 01:01 PM KARACHI: Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Abdullah Zaki has warmly welcomed the approval and prompt sanctioning of funds for various development projects by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif during his visit to Karachi. Zaki said the Green Line Bus Service worth Rs15 billion, along with the Lyari Expressway valued at Rs6 billion, is to be fully funded by the federal government and this would certainly help in resolving the traffic crisis and congestion in the city. Additionally, the approval of the K-4 – the water supply project – that is of an estimate cost of Rs12 billion, would effectively address the water scarcity being faced by the people of Karachi, Zaki added. The KCCI president expressed his satisfaction over the premier’s announcement to initiate work on the Malir Motorway project, M9, which is likely to cost Rs42 billion. “This is an important project that will link Karachi Port and Port Qasim and will facilitate a smooth flow of goods between the two ports.” Zaki further showed his appreciation over the decision to commence development work on the Karachi-Lahore Motorway for which the federal government had already released Rs55 billion to the National Highway Authority for land acquisition. Zaki however, underscored the need to announce the exact commencement and completion dates of these development projects so that representatives of the business community could personally monitor the work in progress and ensure the timely completion of these important projects. The official also assured full support and cooperation on behalf of the entire business community in making Karachi a safer and more secure city for doing business. Commenting on the Sindh government’s role in facilitating the business community, Zaki said that Karachi fully acknowledges and appreciates the chief minister’s keen interest in various development projects, particularly in the industrial zones of the city.
