Karachi: Governor briefed on city’s skyline policy - Naveed Yaseen - 10-27-2008 08:58 AM Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan has said that while giving final shape to Karachi’s skyline, not only will care have to be taken of public interests but the infrastructure will also have to be shaped in a way that will benefit the entire city’s population. “Many countries that went for high rises without developing infrastructure are today faced with varying problems,” he observed in a briefing given by Chief Controller of Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA), Manzoor Kadir. Sindh Minister for Local Government, Agha Siraj Durrani, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, DCO Javed Hanif and other officials concerned were also present on the occasion. Ebad said that it was a ripe time that a coordinated policy concerning the city’s skyline was announced. “By providing a coordinated policy, not only the local developers could be lured for investment but also attract foreign investors.” He said that high rise policy would prove successful only when mass transit was also completed to solve the emerging traffic problems while K-4 project would also have to be incorporated to meet the water needs. Similarly more treatment plants would have to be installed. “When we will address the infrastructure simultaneously, only then not only we will be able to win the confidence of the investors but also the common man.” The governor said that initially coastal areas should be specified for skyline as all basic requirements could be easily met there. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=143302 |
