40 killed in US Afghan wedding strike 23 children, 10 women among dead - LRE - 11-06-2008 11:13 AM 40 killed in US Afghan wedding strike;23 children, 10 women among dead Staff Reporter Kandahar—The US and allied forces marines doing adventurism in War-trodden country Afghanistan also shared the jubilations over the US presidential elections and gifted Barack Obama with more the 40 dead bodies of the innocent Afghan women and kids on his making way to the White house. The US and coalition forces jet planes ruthless bombings on a marriage party in a remote village in Kandahar province of Afghanistan on Tuesday late evening left up to 40 people dead, including 23 children and as many as 10 female dead. The locals fear the death toll may be much higher as the Americans war machines, literally played havoc on a wedding party in a village in Kandahar province. A number of houses were flattened to ground where hundreds of people had gathered to celebrate the event. A Kandahar province villager Abdul Jalil says he was hosting a wedding party for his niece when a few Taliban militants fighting U.S. forces took cover near his home. He said, at least 37 innocent people including 33 kids and women were killed initially when U.S. warplanes ruthlessly bombed the wedding party. Survivors of the wedding ceremony who escaped narrowly said the casualties may be much higher. Some American officials in Afghanistan confirmed that a number of civilians had been killed in the air strike with a military spokesman saying he was certain there were civilian casualties and expressed sorrow for what had happened. Official also hinted at carrying out a probe into what went wrong. Though this is the latest incident to involve civilian casualties, the US and allied forces have in the past never minded to strike hard on the civil populations and killing hundreds of innocent people including women and children under the pretext of targeting the militants as well as friendly fires. In August last some 33 Afghan civilians were killed by the US led forces reckless bombings while in July US air strike had killed 47 civilians in the eastern province of Nangarhar. According to rough estimates the US led air strikes in parts of Afghanistan from January to August 2008, has left up to 1,445 civilians dead. On the other hand the Americans installed Afghan president Hamid Karzai taking strong exception to the innocent killing in Kandahar province, made an immediate demand of President-elect Barack Obama to bring an end to the civilian casualties in Afghanistan while operating against the militants. “Our demand is that there should be no more civilian casualties in Afghanistan. We cannot win the fight against terrorism with air strikes,” Karzai said adding “This is my first demand of the new president of the United States to put an end to civilian casualties.” http://pakobserver.net/200811/06/news/topstories10.asp |
