Lahore: The task force formed to frame local government bill has proposed the introduce village councils and neighborhood councils in Punjab on the model of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a news source reported. Prime Minister Imran Khan has been determined to shift power to the grassroots level and he recently extended the one-week deadline to the task force.
A meeting of the task force decided that the village councils would be modeled on those in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Neighborhood councils were also suggested. The meeting also decided that village and neighborhood councils will be empowered to spend 30% of the funds on development schemes and each councilor will be able to spend up to PKR 10 million on development annually.
