DHA issues guidelines for generator usage at residences - LRE - 12-20-2008 11:13 PM DHA issues guidelines for generator usage at residences * Maximum capacity for generators 25KVA * Resident appreciates decision * DHA spokesman says notification issued to address problems facing residents regarding noise and air pollution By Afnan Khan LAHORE: The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) administration has issued guidelines for the installation of generators at residences to cope with the ongoing power shortage, and to avoid noise and air pollution. The DHA said this was to maintain discipline during load shedding and to address the concerns of the residents regarding noise and air pollution caused by sub-standard or older generators used by some residents. Maximum: The DHA issued these guidelines in a notification a few days after load shedding started again. The notification urges residents to either install power generators in the house’s basement or in the front lawn at least five feet from any boundary wall. It says all generators should be installed with a sound proof canopy to avoid noise pollution. The DHA has also set a maximum limit of 25KVA for domestic generators. They have also instructed residents to only use generators as an alternate source of electricity only during load shedding. Praise: DHA resident, Azhar Abbas, appreciated the decision to issue guidelines regarding the installation of generators in the area. He said the authorities would have to do work hard to ensure this rule, as there should be a law, which would ban the use of sub-standard and out-dated generators. He said residents would abide by the rules if the DHA implemented them strictly. Problems: DHA spokesman said the notification was issued to address the problems facing residents regarding noise and air pollution caused by sub-standard generators. He said the DHA was a well-planned and disciplined residential facility, adding that the power generator guidelines were part of their policy to regulate proper usage of every facility. He said no stern penalty for violations had been decided yet, adding that the authorities concerned would amend their policies further after getting feedback from the residents. daily times |
