Saturday, January 03, 2009 ISLAMABAD: Advisor to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr Asim Hussain said on Friday that recent increase in gas prices would not have a negative impact on the domestic consumers. In a statement issued, Hussain said there is an increase of Rs4 for the domestic consumers utilising 50 and 100 units per month. On the use of 200 units per month, consumers would have to pay Rs6 only, while consumers of 300 units have to face increase of Rs19 in addition to their monthly bills, he added. Hussain said in the recent increase special measures have been taken to protect the domestic consumers exploiting 50 to 300 units per month as Rs4 to 19 increases would not have any negative impact on the low income group. The Advisor said at present the country was facing gap between demand and supply in energy sector as the previous government did not give due attention for uplift of this sector during the last eight years. He said negotiations with the Iranian government for early completion of Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project were also underway. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=155188 |
