LDA bulldozes encroachments in Sabzazar - CMY - 06-04-2008 12:08 PM Serves notices on encroachers in Main Boulevard, Iqbal Town, Multan Road LAHORE: The staff of the Estate Management and Town Planning directorates of the Lahore Development Authority has jointly carried out a comprehensive operation against the encroachments erected along the main boulevard of Sabzazar Housing Scheme from Multan Road to Liaquat Chowk. The operation was launched early in the morning at about 6am Tuesday. As many as 17 temporary shops, five permanent restaurant buildings and scores of other illegal structures and shops, set up on the both sides of the main boulevard's service roads, were demolished during this operation. The service roads were cleared of all hurdles that were creating hindrances in the smooth flow of traffic. The operation will continue for another two days for restoring the area according to the original scheme plan of the colony. Meanwhile, after completing the survey of encroachments along the main boulevard, Allama Iqbal Town, and Multan Road from Scheme Morre to Thokar Niaz Beg, the Lahore Development Authority has served demolition notices on all the encroachers in the area for voluntarily removing illegal structures within a period of two days. The authority has planned to carry out a massive anti-encroachment operation in the locality on the expiry of the deadline with a view to restoring footpaths, service roads and greenbelts that have been encroached upon by shopkeepers and other business holders. The primary objective of the said operation is to facilitate smooth plying of public transport vehicles, especially buses and vans along the busy Multan Road. |
