Karachi: Land allotment in Orangi Cottage Industrial Zone - Naveed Yaseen - 07-24-2008 09:06 AM Mustafa Kamal ask owners to start construction work immediately City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has urged the allottees of over four thousand cottage industry plots in Orangi Town to begin construction work within six months or the allotments would stand cancelled and would be auctioned again. He said that the people were getting possession of their land after 14 years under the Haq Parast leadership. Kamal was addressing a ceremony held in Orangi 11 1/2 to award possession of plots to the people of the Orangi Cottage Industrial Zone on Wednesday. “The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) will provide all utility services including water and sewerage at the cottage industrial zone in six months while the construction of internal and external roads was also ongoing rapidly,” he added. “More than 40 thousand people will get livelihood under the scheme,” Kamal said. The City Nazim said that the Haq Parast leadership has never discriminated against anyone nor did it believe in taking revenge on anyone. “In fact, we have been fighting for the rights of the people without considering their caste, creed or religion so that the deserving people get their rights,” he said. Kamal said that a total of 4,118 plots measuring 200-square-yard were allotted among the citizens through balloting in 1994 by the defunct KMC but the allottees were not given the possession for 14 years. “The Haq Parast government fought for a long time with the powerful land mafia that had occupied half of the 262 acres allocated for the cottage industry,” he said. “It was very easy for us to occupy the other half area as the land was already occupied and we had not even promised with the citizens to get the land vacated from the land mafia but we believed that it was our duty to get the land vacated and today we are proud of getting it vacated,” Kamal said. He said that it was a long war with the land mafia as, according to him, the Town Naib Nazim was hit by a bullet while clearing encroachments. “We have made no changes in the list of the owners and they were getting possession of their land at the same price,” he said. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=125981 |
