Rural women spend more time in economic activities: survey - LahoreEstate - 05-26-2009 04:49 AM Staff Report ISLAMABAD: Rural women in Pakistan spend more time in economic activities as than rural men, a survey report released on Monday revealed. ‘Time use survey’ was conducted in collaboration with the Finance Ministry and the Federal Bureau of Statistics to report on how people spend their time. United Nations Development Programme supported this first-ever nationwide survey of its kind in Pakistan. The survey revealed that urban men and women spend more time in socio-cultural activities compared to men and women in rural areas. The survey report revealed that 50 percent of women in Pakistan are unpaid family workers and only 13 percent were white-collar workers. Around 69 percent work as brown collar workers (service, agriculture and trade workers). Rural women spend more time in economic activities compared to men. More than half (56 percent) of employed respondents were in brown collar jobs. About one-fourth (24 percent) of males were white-collar workers compared to about one-eight (13 percent) females. The survey stated that 50 percent females compared to 14 percent males were unpaid family workers.
