DHA’s week-long fund raising campaign concludes : Karachi - LahoreEstate - 05-27-2009 07:27 AM Wednesday, May 27, 2009 By our correspondent Karachi A fund raising dinner for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) of Swat was held at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club on Sunday night. Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan was the chief guest of the function. The ceremony marked the culmination of Defence Housing Authority’s (DHA) week-long fund raising campaign. Speaking on the occasion Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan said that mass exodus of population in Swat is a human tragedy of great dimension. He said that the IDPs of Swat deserved full support and needed to be treated with sympathy, love and kindness. The Governor said that the nation must support the gallant armed forces engaged in onerous operations in Swat against the militants. He said that the militants would be routed with full national support behind the Army. Administrator DHA Brig Khalid Tirmizi said that people from all walks of life including 17,000 students of DHA educational institutions participated in the campaign with great zeal and enthusiasm. He said that the response of the public to the fund raising campaign was overwhelming. The major contributors and donors were given Awards of Excellence by the Governor. National heroes Islahuddin (Hockey), Zaheer Abbas (Cricket) and Jehangir Khan (Squash) auctioned their signed hockey stick, cricket bat and squash racket respectively and fetched impressive amount for IDPs fund. Three selected students of DHA Schools/Colleges made eloquent speeches on the topic of IDPs issues. A satire sum comedy stage play, ‘Taliban in Karachi’ was hilarious but quite meaningful. An impressive vintage car show was held outside the Convention Hall. The Administrator in his concluding remarks said that optimism, resilence and hope were the galvanising spirit of the entire fund raising campaign.
