Islamabad: Development of neglected sectors top priority, says CDA’s new chief - Naveed Yaseen - 06-25-2009 07:20 AM

ISLAMABAD: Imtiaz Inayat Elahi on Wednesday assumed the charge as new Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman.

During his first introductory meeting with the CDA board members and senior officers, the newly appointed chairman said progress and development of the city, especially its neglected sectors, provision of basic amenities of life to citizens, water conservation and improvement of environment was top priority.

Imtiaz said he would need support of senior CDA officers to make CDA a modern civic and development agency. He stressed upon the need for organising khuli kutcheries (open courts) and re-activating citizen committees. “Development process will be carried out at a fast pace,” he said.

The new chairman is a senior and experienced officer of District Management Group (DMG). He has replaced Tariq Mahmood Khan as CDA chairman, who has been asked to report to Establishment Division.

Earlier, Elahi was serving as additional secretary in Ministry of Environment. He served twice as Islamabad deputy commissioner from 1989 to 1992 and 1996 to 1997. He also served as director general (environment) in the CDA, joint secretary in Prime Minister’s Secretariat and as additional secretary in Ministry of Health.

His major contributions as the CDA DG (environment) include development of Melody Food Park, Flower Markets, widening and beautification of roundabouts, improvement of parks, jogging and walking tracks and landscaping of various spots.
