Hangu police foil major weapon smuggling attempt - LahoreEstate - 06-29-2009 04:25 AM * Taliban commander planning attacks on shrines arrested from Charsadda * Two Taliban commanders arrested from Peshawar, one killed by gunmen HANGU/ISLAMABAD: Hangu Police on Sunday arrested four suspects trying to smuggle weapons from Kohat into Hangu. They seized a huge cache of weapons that included 48 rocket shells, 30 bombs, five kilogrammes of explosives and other unspecified automatic weapons. The arrested men were identified as Shiraz Ali, Adil Nazeer, Shahdat Hussain and Akhund Khan. Their vehicle – bearing registration number Kohat-C 3122 – was also seized. A beheaded body was recovered from the Shahukhel area of Hangu. Unidentified men kidnapped councillor Shamsur Rehman from near his home in the Tull tehsil. In Charsadda, police arrested top Taliban commander Qari Roohullah and an accomplice Saeed Badshah, APP reported. The arrested men were planning to carry out bomb attacks on shrines of sufi saints. The Charsadda district police officer told a private TV channel the suspects were held from a mosque in the Battagram area of Shabqadar tehsil. Roohullah was a key Taliban commander from Mohmand Agency, he said, and was wanted by the Mohmand political administration as well as the Charsadda police. During operations in various parts of Peshawar, police and intelligence officials arrested two Taliban commanders, and unidentified men killed a third, Online reported. The arrested men – Azizullah and Abdullah –were held from Sikandar Road and University Town areas, a private TV channel reported. Taliban commander Majnoon was killed by unidentified gunmen in Board Bazaar.
