* Punjab CM says comprehensive strategy developed to eliminate illiteracy

Staff Report

LAHORE: There is hardly any project that has been completed within the given timeframe during the last eight years and as a result the government has to bear additional expenditures of billions of rupees, which is a grave injustice to the people of Punjab, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif has said.

The CM said this while addressing a meeting held to review the Pindi Bhattian-Chiniot- Kamal Pur Road project at the CM’s Secretariat on Wednesday. He said the major cause of a delay in the execution of development projects was the connivance between contractors and the department concerned.

He said the present government was encouraging timely completion of development projects while third-party audit of mega projects had been made mandatory to ensure transparent usage of public money. He said all resources were being used to uplift the province and provide basic amenities to the public. He said infrastructure played a vital role in industrial and social development; therefore, the government for improvement of infrastructure in the province was taking solid measures.

He directed the Communications and Works (C&W) Department to take solid measures to complete development projects delayed in the past. He said the Sagian Interchange had been completed within five months and this project would help develop the province. The C&W secretary presented details regarding various ongoing development projects in the province.
