Sindh: ‘Rs 200m for low-cost houses’: CM - Naveed Yaseen - 08-13-2009 07:10 AM KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said on Wednesday that Rs 200 million have been allocated in the budget to provide low-cost houses to 10,000 poor people this year. “The federal government has started a scheme to provide low-cost houses to poor people, while the Sindh government is also working in this regard under the Peoples Housing Cell,” he said while presiding over a meeting to review the progress of the People’s Housing Cell. Shah said that in the first phase, earthquake-proof and energy efficient houses are being constructed in the coastal areas of Thatta, Badin and Karachi including Keti Bandar, Ghora Bari, Bin Qasim and Keamari. The chief minister said that in the second phase, 40 houses would be constructed for the poor in each districts of Larkana, Khairpur, Sukkur, Jacobabad and Shikarpur. The work on these houses in Larkana has already been started, he added. The chief minister said that the houses would be constructed with same design so that there should be no discrimination with anyone. The allottees of these houses will have to pay monthly instalments to purchase them, he informed.
