CDGK launches drive against beggars - LahoreEstate - 08-24-2009 06:24 AM Monday, August 24, 2009 Karachi The city government has started apprehending beggars and over 500 were caught from various areas, chowrangis, shopping and business centres on the first of Ramazan and send them to the Edhi Village on the Super Highway. With the start of Ramazan, the city government on receipt of arrival of professional beggars in the city launched a drive through city wardens. Besides creating problems for the citizens, they were also involved in certain crimes. Meanwhile, over 1,500 city wardens of the city government started working in the city to control traffic and in helping the traffic police. They have been deployed from Tower to Sohrab Goth, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, MA Jinnah Road, Tower to Airport, Quaidabad, Landhi, Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, Corridors I-II and III, North Karachi Road-5000 besides city’s other major thoroughfares, parking lots and commercial centres as well as internal areas of Saddar. —APP PHF invites Kamal at launching of Super Hockey League: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) invited City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, as chief guest at the launching of Super Hockey League the other day. President of PHF, Qasim Zia, called on Kamal at his office and gave him the invitation. Kamal on this occasion said that the city government had been working on a thorough plan to provide better and state-of-the-art sports facilities to the youths in Karachi. He also said that the construction of 16 international standard sports stadiums was currently underway in different towns of the city out of which four stadiums had been completed with floodlights. Kamal said that besides cricket, the city government was also paying attention to the promotion of other sports like hockey for which it had planned to construct more astroturf stadiums in the city. He said that a couple of astroturf grounds had been completed like the one at the Iftikhar Syed Academy in Gulshan Town. Other grounds would also be completed soon.
