Memberships drive for the federal government employees with prime objective to providing housing units under government’s ambitious launched scheme continues and till Thursday about 11, 500 employees have filed forms.

Director Finance Federal Government Housing Foundation Kashif Ahmed Noor told this agency that till September 24, they had received about 11,500 registration forms.

When contacted Ministry of Housing and Works Secretary Ahmed Bux Lehri said that they had not set a specific deadline for submission of registration forms.

He said that they would continue receiving the forms and the number of cost effective housing units for federal government employees would be determined on the basis of total number of aspirants.

Replying to another query, he said there was no specific number of housing units to be constructed, however, about ten thousand units would be constructed in the initial stage.

Lehri also hinted out that concerned ministry was also focusing on public-private partnership for a chain of housing units.

The Federal government has launched membership drive for the federal government employees to provide them housing facilities to overcome housing backlog hitting a significant number of employees hard for the last many years.

The federal government employees in different BPS have been asked to submit registration forms with set amount for each category and these forms can be downloaded directly from Ministry’s website where all other related details have also been provided.

In past, several schemes were announced for overcoming the issue but they hit snags due to land acquisition, litigation and delayed payment of dues issues.
