'Mafia' out to oust CDA Member Engineering - LahoreEstate - 10-30-2009 11:10 AM ISLAMABAD – A mighty mafia of CDA officials and contractors is allegedly intriguing to overthrow Member (Engineering) Tahir Shamshad, who they perceive as a big hurdle in pursuit of their ‘vested interests’. The dead honest Member (Engineering) never obliged any contractor rather put an end to the monopoly of certain Islamabad-based contractors by bringing Karachi-based Maqbool Associates for construction of Zero Point Interchange, reliable sources in Engineering Wing of the Authority informed. As part of the campaign against the said Member, the mafia is spreading rumours through press that Tahir Shamshad had been verbally communicated that he was being transferred. An official of the Administration Wing even misinformed this correspondent the other day that after the said verbal communication, Tahir had left his office and given up the charge. However, when contacted, Tahir rejected the rumours, saying he knew who were hatching conspiracies against him. “I removed lacunas from the wrongly signed contract of Faisal Avenue Flyover and took principled stand on issues pertaining to the I-9 Sewerage Treatment Plant and Zero Point Interchange, which, he said, hurt interests of certain contractors”, he said. “Furthermore, I transferred some four senior officials of the Engineering Wing from lucrative positions they were sticking to for so many years. These officials were securing personal interests instead of working in CDA’s interest”, Tahir added. He said that after using all possible means to force him to bring them back on their previous position, the officials resorted to exerting political pressure on him, thus dragging him in the Standing Committee of National Assembly through their political contacts. “I put the reasons behind their transfer before the lawmakers and refused to bring them back on their previous position, but I succeeded to satisfy members of the Committee”, Tahir further said. The Member further informed that CDA had received three requisition letters for his services from the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA), Planning Commission and Ministry of Housing and Works but the CDA turned down the requests. “Now the mafia is trying to overthrow me through the Cabinet Division”, Tahir said. http://www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-news-newspaper-daily-english-online/Regional/Islamabad/30-Oct-2009/Mafia-out-to-oust-CDA-Member-Engineering |
