PPP united on NRO issue: Zardari - Naveed Yaseen - 10-31-2009 07:44 AM ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday defended the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and said the PPP was united on the issue of the ordinance due to which democracy was restored in the country. Talking to The News after attending a meeting of the PPP MNAs, MPAs and ticket holders from the Lahore Division here at the Presidency, PPP Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab said all the participants of the meeting reiterated their support to the president. In an interaction with the PPP Lahore leaders, Fauzia said President Zardari credited the NRO for making Musharraf shed his uniform which make possible the return of democracy in the country. She said the president also told the meeting that it was Musharraf who needed the support of the PPP for his legitimacy. ìThe previous government requested the PPP for its support and introduced the NRO,î she quoted the president as saying. Meanwhile, President Zardari said the government is fully determined to purge the society of militancy and extremism.During the meeting, current political situation in the country, the ongoing military offensive against terrorists and party matters were discussed. The president, while condemning the terrorist attack in Meena Bazaar, Peshawar, said the ongoing drive against the militants and extremists was imperative and there was no turning back from it till the complete elimination of the militants. He paid tributes to the soldiers and law-enforcement agencies personnel for their courage and heroism. Participants of the meeting spoke on host of issues and also raised some issues relating to their constituencies.
